After years of manually and semi-automatically creating catalogues, price lists and data sheets, Miltenyi Biotec also came to the conclusion that only a homogeneous collection of data, both internal and external, could ensure rapid transfer and constructive communication between the provider and the target group. To meet these requirements, data must be stored centrally, the publication process for the various media must be significantly simplified, and the quality of the content must be maximised accordingly.
For this complex task, Miltenyi Biotec GmbH has been relying on INFOLOX as a competent and strong partner in the field of product communication for a year now.
Analyse – Design – Implement
At the start of the project, the structure of the most important existing print publications was analysed. The next step was to adapt the publications based on the analysis results. The aim of this adaptation was to achieve the highest possible degree of automation for the individual publications.
The subsequent implementation phase involved minor adjustments to the layout. The structures and product data were created in the new PIM system, and the publication processes and publication planning were redesigned. Just 12 weeks after implementation of the EPIM system, the first price lists were already being generated automatically.
This was accompanied by an evaluation of CMS and e-commerce solutions with regard to the creation of a multi-component backend – a fully integrated system landscape centred around the PIM system.
Benefits and conclusion
Thanks to the comprehensive analysis carried out at the start of the project, the publication models are now ideally suited to highly automated processes and, at the same time, generate publications with optimum usability. In addition, centralised data storage reduces the time required and the susceptibility to errors when product data is changed and increases data consistency in the individual documents. According to Miltenyi Biotec, the productivity gains are already clearly noticeable in the data sheets, and the savings in the price lists will become apparent in the next run.
An all-round successful project that enabled Miltenyi Biotec to deliver its 2011 price and product lists on time and paved the way for future publications. Miltenyi Biotec particularly praised the excellent and committed cooperation with INFOLOX.
